FAQ

Here are some some helpful tips and answers to common questions about renting a vehicle.

We recommend always choosing a rental company that is an accredited SAVRALA Member. These companies adhere to our high standards and professional ethics. Click here to view our directory of SAVRALA-accredited Rental Members.

SAVRALA members follow a strict Code of Conduct and Charter, ensuring a high level of professionalism and service. In the rare case of a dispute, SAVRALA will assist in resolving the matter fairly.

Our members offer a wide range of rental packages to suit various needs, including:

  • Long-term rentals: Ideal for extended periods with options for limited free kilometres.
  • Short-term rentals: Affordable daily rates and per-kilometre charges for quick trips or business needs.

Visit our members’ websites or call their customer service centres to explore vehicle options and any special rates available at the time of your booking.

If you’re involved in an accident or your rental car is stolen, follow these steps:

  1. Gather all possible information about the incident, including details of any other party involved.
  2. Notify the car rental company immediately.
  3. Complete all required accident or theft documentation provided by the rental company.
  4. Never admit fault or liability to any other party involved in an accident.
  • Billing Period: Car rental rates are calculated on a 24-hour basis starting from the time you pick up the vehicle. If you return the vehicle later than the agreed check-out time, an additional day’s charge may apply, though most companies offer a one-hour grace period.
  • Overdue Rentals: If the vehicle is not returned on the agreed date, it will be considered overdue. Any waivers or coverage you purchased will no longer apply during this period, leaving you fully responsible for any damage or theft.
  • Driver’s Licence Requirements: A valid driver’s licence must always be carried when driving. Rental companies will require you to present your licence when picking up the vehicle, so ensure it is current and with you.
